FAQ
This Q&A is a work in progress. I have decided to include it in my site to:
- Answer questions about me or my services
- Answer many questions that get asked repeatedly
- Help people with web design questions in general
I already have a site… Can you fix it?
Depends on what you mean by fix. I can give it a facelift and offer suggestions. It is of course your site however and the content must come from you.
What process do you use to design a website?
None really, I just throw something together and let you take a look at it. If you like it we just go from there. The fact is that there should be a “plan” to design a site at which point we agree to everything and then sign off on it. But that takes the fun out of it right?
What do you think is important about web design?
- Keywords and Content – Who is your target audience? You will need this in the text of the pages in order to get better search results. Text is king on a website.
- Quick Load times – Over 75% of people are still on dialup. Folks will not wait around to see your huge pictures and stuff. There is simply too much other stuff to see out there.
- Current content – I don’t surf my sites looking for outdated content. If you don’t plan on updating a site you will want text that is not time specific.
- Clean Code – No crazy java stuff such as “no right click” Use CSS instead of tons of html tags and no Microsoft FrontPage which is notorious for dirty code
- Easy Navigation – It’s good for people to know exactly where they are going. Unless you're going for a maze then you will want simple but effective navigation
- Nice Images – It’s amazing how many people put up some amateurish looking gif’s and clip art. It’s everywhere. Flashing crazy looking fireworks and stuff doesn’t look good for a professional design.
